Pushpa 2: The Rule, the highly anticipated sequel to Pushpa, has made a stunning impact at the global box office on its opening day. Directed by Sukumar and starring Allu Arjun, the film earned an impressive ₹175.1 crore nett in India on Day 1, setting a new record for the biggest opener of all time. In doing so, Pushpa 2 surpassed Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan, which previously held the record.
While official figures are still awaited, early estimates suggest that the global gross could have touched ₹200 crore, including the overseas earnings.
Released on December 5, Pushpa 2 had a massive release, screening on over 10,000 screens worldwide, making it one of the most awaited films of 2024. The film’s early success is driven by strong performances in multiple regions, including a ₹10.1 crore nett haul from the special premiere shows held in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Bengaluru on December 4.
On Thursday, the film continued its dominant run, grossing ₹165 crore in India. The Telugu version alone contributed a staggering ₹85 crore nett, while the Hindi version brought in ₹67 crore nett—beating Jawan’s previous Day 1 record of ₹64 crore. Additionally, the Tamil and Malayalam versions of Pushpa 2 earned ₹7 crore and ₹5 crore, respectively.
Early estimates suggest that the film may even surpass RRR’s ₹223 crore Day 1 record, though the official numbers from the production house will provide more clarity on the final gross collection.
