NEW DELHI: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who was admitted to a private hospital in Mohali after showing signs of pulmonary artery inflammation, tested positive for leptospirosis on Saturday.
“His blood tests confirmed leptospirosis, which we suspected at the time of admission for tropical fever. The chief minister has been placed on appropriate antibiotics, and his condition has shown satisfactory improvement based on clinical features and pathological tests.
CM Mann is responding well to treatment for the elevated pressure in his pulmonary artery, which had caused irregular blood pressure.
“The increased pressure on his pulmonary artery led to stress on his heart, causing fluctuations in his blood pressure. Currently, all of his vital signs are stable,”
Mann was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday night for what the state government initially described as a “regular check-up.” A previous statement from the Chief Minister’s office detailed that further medical tests were being conducted due to inflammation in a lung artery, which was putting pressure on his heart. The doctors decided to keep him under observation until his condition stabilized.
