New Delhi: Police announced on Monday that the primary suspect in the tragic incident involving a gaming zone fire in Rajkot, Gujarat, resulting in the death of 27 individuals, has been apprehended. The key suspect, Dhawal Thakkar, was captured in Abu Road, Rajasthan, where he had reportedly sought refuge at a relative’s residence, according to police sources.
Earlier today, a local court granted a 14-day police custody for three men arrested in connection with the game zone fire. Special public prosecutor Tushar Gokani revealed that the accused individuals cited fire damage when questioned about certain documents.
An FIR was lodged against six partners of the TRP game zone. Among them, Yuvrajsinh Solanki and Rahul Rathod, partners at Raceway Enterprise, which operated the TRP game zone, along with recreation center manager Nitin Jain, were arrested earlier in the day.
According to the FIR, the accused constructed a structure measuring 50 meters in width and 60 meters in length, equivalent to a three-story building’s height, using metal sheet fabrication for the game zone. The establishment lacked adequate firefighting equipment and had not obtained a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the local fire department.
Gujarat Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghavi, stated that the government-appointed special investigation team (SIT) had seized all relevant files pertaining to the game zone for further examination.
“The SIT, in my presence, has confiscated all pertinent documents from 2021 to 2024 from various departments, including the road and building department, police, and Rajkot Municipal Corporation. We will take strict action against those found guilty of any wrongdoing,” Mr. Sanghavi assured reporters in Gandhinagar.
