A man was killed after a sack of homemade firecrackers exploded in Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, on Diwali. The victim, riding on a scooter, was carrying the explosive when it detonated, injuring five others.
The blast occurred when the scooter hit a pothole, causing the sack of “onion bombs” to shift and explode. Sudhakar, who was riding pillion, sustained severe burns and later died from his injuries. The injured have been identified as Tabelu Sai, Suvara Shashi, K. Srinivasa Rao, S.K. Khadar, Suresh, and Satish.
Police responded quickly to the scene and took the injured to Eluru Government Hospital.
“Onion bombs” are firecrackers shaped like onions, designed to produce a loud bang, bright flash, and sometimes smoke, resembling a small dynamite explosion.
