India is considering shutting its airspace to Pakistani airlines and banning Pakistani ships from Indian ports in response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, allegedly carried out by Pakistan-based militants, according to government sources.
Pakistani carriers have already begun rerouting flights to avoid Indian airspace, and further restrictions could force them to use longer routes via China or Sri Lanka.
The move is part of a broader set of retaliatory measures by New Delhi, which has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, shut the Attari-Wagah border crossing, revoked all Pakistani visas, and ended Saarc travel privileges for Pakistani citizens. India has also withdrawn military advisors from its High Commission in Islamabad and expelled Pakistan’s military attachés.
In response, Pakistan has denied involvement in the attack, warned against interference with its water rights, cancelled Indian visas, and suspended bilateral trade.
