Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh Assembly session is tentatively set to commence on September 20, pending any unforeseen developments. Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, currently on a tour of London, is slated to return on September 12. Sources indicate that he will make a decision regarding the session after his return.
The purpose of this session is to address several critical bills, including the decentralization bill, as part of Jagan’s plan to relocate his administrative base to Visakhapatnam. While he had previously announced his intention to move in September, it now appears that the move will take place after the Dasara festival.
Jagan has committed to introducing an improved bill to replace the proposal for three capitals, and it is anticipated that this session will feature this revised legislation. The ruling party is steadfast in designating Visakhapatnam as the executive capital and Kurnool as the judicial capital, thereby reducing Amaravati to the status of a “legislative capital,” where the assembly will convene for only a few days each year.
The government has already initiated the transfer of certain judicial offices to Kurnool, and the relocation of some executive offices to Visakhapatnam will follow once Jagan presents the revised three capitals bill in the assembly.
Jagan aims for this session to span at least 10 working days, recognizing its pivotal importance. While he plans for another session in December, this session is expected to play a crucial role for the ruling party in clarifying its political agenda before the upcoming elections. Sources suggest that the chief minister will commence working from Visakhapatnam for two to three days each week following the assembly session.
Furthermore, Jagan is anticipated to transfer key offices to Visakhapatnam as preparations for their accommodations near completion. He has already alerted several senior IAS officials to prepare for the move to Visakhapatnam, with officials currently arranging their accommodations.
